I have a question, where Unsharp Mask should be applied:

Option 1. In the same layer where I do color grading/corrections.

Option 2. Above the layer where I do color grading/corrections.

Option 3. Below the layer where I do color grading/corrections.

Thank you.

Replacing audio clip to original

This sounds like a simple enough idea but I can't figure it out, for some reason my song track has gone soft into a portion and cannot figure out why, I do not see any effect added and I can't get it to normalize easily by adjusting the volume, I have done many cuts on the song to match the video..

My question is, is there a way to replace the audio clip with its original even though many cuts have been made? I am looking for steady volume of the song

Thanks

Hello,

I have big problem with PP:

I create new project

It start when I tried open file which I create with old PP version in 2017, after I saw this problem first time, i uninstall PP, but it doesn't help. Then I reinstall my windows 10, it helps, but after I tried open this old  project again, problem returned (may be reason is another because first 2-3 times PP opened this project correctly). So were need yours help!!!

Freezing and crashing

Editing 90 minute feature film and getting a bit desperate due to crashes and 20 second freezes

Playback (ie hitting the space bar) has anything between a 5 and 20 second delay

Premiere would crash regularly some times after only a few key strokes (even after machine re boot)

Saving to a new file name helped for a short while.

Is Premiere not able to edit full length feature films, should I split it into smaller scenes (don't think you

have to using davinci but this film is currently premiere only)

I'm really not fussed as to who is to blame (probably me) but the director, cast and investors are getting

pretty steamed at the moment as I can't deliver.

The export file is 7.15gb (oh and yes I had regular "can't render, unknown error" earlier)

12 video channels (most of them empty)

11 Audio channels (quite a few empty)

It's a big project 96 minutes but not particularly complex

Machine details below

I have gone through most of the google fixes

Emptied media cache

Changed from Mercury to software only (and back)

Rendered regularly

Any way to relink clips in timeline to new Merged clip?

Client provided 30 min clip with 1 stereo mixed track including music.

Edited assembly from this clip.

Now finally got the split 12 track audio.

Made a merged from the original video and the new audio. Great.

Now how do I tell Premiere to relink all the clips from that original file to the new merged clip??

(I know I could re-export the whole thing and make a new file but that will take too long and I have to do this many times.)

Automatically recognize Audio Hardware Default Output - Headphone, Speakers

Hello

my system is Windows10.

Since Premiere 2018 when I plug in my Headphones Premiere doesn't automatically
recognize it. Because of this I have to configure every time when I change
between Speakers and Headphone in the > Audio Hardware > Default Output
settings > Headphones or Speakers.

All other programs like Browser, YouTube, ect., on my PC are automatically recognize
either Speakers or Headphones are active.

Question:

Can you please help how to configure Premier 2018 in order to have Speakers or
Headphones automatically recognized?

Thank you.

Replace multiple clips with sequence (using timecode)

$

I have a project that was sent to me by a producer that did not create a multicam sequence before assembling an edit. Now I need to replace all the clips on the timeline with a multicam sequence that I made from the clips but I can't figure out the best way.

If I Alt+Shift and drag the multicam sequence onto a single clip it replaces that clip at the correct timecode and works exactly how I want it to. The problem is, if I select multiple clips and do the same thing the only clip that is replaced with the correct timecode is the one I dragged it to - all other clips are out of order.

How do I replace all the clips with the multicam sequence quickly? Not looking to do it one by one. Thanks!

Playback won't stop in multicam sequence

Here's a new one.

When editing a multicamera sequence, I keep running into this weird phenomenon where I can't stop the playback.  I hit the space bar, start making cuts, then when I want to stop I hit the space bar again and nothing happens.  The sequence keeps playing, sometimes stopping after a couple a minute or so, sometimes not until the end of the sequence.

The nested multi-cam sequence has just 4 streams of DSLR video.  The machine I'm using has plenty of CPU power and memory and an nVidia GPU, so I'd be surprised if resources are a problem.  The source media is on a Raid-0 array.

I've tried switching the resolution to 1/4, but this makes no difference.  I have several layers of audio but have solo'ed just one to see if that would help.  No.

Any suggestions?

"Why does my footage look darker in Premiere?" Color Q&A

$

0

Courageous community member Matt Johnson made a video based on this document. Watch here for a visualization of the solution, and read on to understand why the color shift is happening in the first place.

1. What's the issue?

     a. "My exports look washed out when I view them in QuickTime player"

     b. "When I post my video on YouTube it looks less saturated and the blacks are raised"

     c. Footage appears darker after imported into Premiere Pro

     d. Help!! Premiere Pro CC is changing the color of my imported footage

     e. When importing rendered clips from davinci into premiere they look darker and more contrasty.

When importing footage into Premiere Pro, the display of the video looks more saturated than when it is played back on other apps such as VLC, QuickTime, After Effects, or a number of web browsers like Safari or Google Chrome. When played back on YouTube through those web browsers, the video also appears less saturated than it does in Premiere. As far as we know, this is a Mac-only issue. If you're experiencing this behavior and you're on a Windows machine, please send me a private message!

Side by side, you can see that video in Premiere (left) is displayed with more saturation than the video displayed in QuickTime (right).

Quicktime on top, Premiere on bottom

(Screenshots from Boots Riley's "Sorry to Bother You")

2. Why is it happening?

a. Premiere displays video based on the assumption that your monitor is set to Rec709 color space and that your footage was recorded in reference to gamma 2.4, because that's the gamma standard for broadcast television. Gamma 2.4 displays with higher contrast — blacker blacks and whiter whites. It was chosen for broadcast television because the people who were deciding playback standards figured that people were watching TV in their dark living rooms, and they thought increased contrast levels looks prettier in that setting.

i. Premiere has a feature called "Display Color Management" that will coordinate with your monitor's display settings in order to correctly display in a Rec709, gamma 2.4 profile.

Premiere Pro > Preferences> General > "Enable Display Color Management (requires GPU acceleration)"

It's the last box on the list and it should always be enabled! For more detailed instructions, go here.

Screen Shot 2019-04-23 at 11.07.33 AM.png

b. Monitors have become fairly standardized over the years, but apps haven't. Other apps like QuickTime, Final Cut Pro, and web browsers like Chrome and Safari display video in a scene-referred gamma 1.96 profile despite what your monitor is set to. Gamma 1.96 profiles play video back in a way that looks closer to what you see in real life — lighter blacks and softer whites.

c. This gamma shift is completely dependent on what app you play your video back in, as most users have figured out on their own. FCP 10, QuickTime, and certain web browsers all play video back in the same way, so people assume that they're displaying the video "correctly" when in reality, it's just that they're displaying the video under similar standards. Your video files are fine! The actual color codes within the pixels of your video are not changing in between apps. The miscommunication is happening between the apps and the monitor they're being displayed on.

TL;DR Premiere uses the same display standards as broadcast television does. Other video playback apps like QuickTime have begun to adhere to different video playback standards. This is what causes videos to display differently in between each app.

Screen Shot 2019-04-24 at 11.33.44 AM.png

The graph above is a visual representation of the gamma display standards of Premiere Pro (orange), which dips into the darker end of the spectrum, compared to the gamma display standards of QuickTime (blue), which don't have the capability to display those dark colors and therefore QuickTime displays video with less saturation which gives it that "washed out" appearance.

(Graph and data by franciscrossman-J6rJng)

3. But why is it worse on my new iMac monitor?

a. Newer Mac displays are wide color gamut (close to P3) and can display more vibrant colors than Rec709 is capable of reproducing. Without any conversion, your Rec709 colors will be displayed as if they were P3 and will appear much more saturated than intended. Display color management is designed to fix this. It maps the Rec709 values to the appropriate P3 values so that the colors look the same.

i. Scroll up for instructions on how to enable Display Color Management, or go here.

b. Again, this is a matter of display and playback. Your actual video file is fine and if it's played back on a different monitor, it'll display correctly!

4. Is there a way to get all my playback apps on the same page?

a. Yes! One of our engineers created a LUT that will darken your video the appropriate amount so that when you play it back in a different app, it will look as it did in Premiere. Technically speaking, the LUT will correct the mathematical difference between gamma 1.96 and 2.4.

i. Download the Gamma Compensation LUT here!

ii. After downloading the LUT (.cube file) and saving it somewhere accessible, prepare to export your sequence!

File > Export (Command+M or CNTRL+M) will pull up the Export Settings window, pictured below.

About halfway down the window, there's a few tabs to adjust encoding settings. Go to the tab marked "Effects" and you'll see an option to enable a Lumetri Look/LUT. Check that box, open the drop-down menu, and click "Select..." to navigate to the space you saved the LUT in.

iii. After you've selected the LUT, Premiere may display that there is "None" selected. That's a common glitch, the LUT has been applied. Sorry for the confusion!

Screen Shot 2019-04-26 at 3.14.49 PM.png

b. However, this needs to be the last thing you do to your video! Either that or you need to save a backup of your video without this LUT on it. Because this LUT is darkening the color code of the video, in some cases, it will darken to the point where you can't get the detail back.

c. If you want to take the LUT off and you don't have a LUT-less backup, you can apply this reversal LUT that will return your video to the color levels you had before you applied the LUT. Perform the same steps listed above with the "Undo Gamma Compensation" LUT!

Issue with Using GPU on NVidia Cards and Adobe Premiere

I am in this upgrade/hardware no where land.

I stuck trying to do this with Xeon E5-2600  Dell Precision T3600 with Nvidia Quadro 5000 and I7 machine with MSI GTX-970 Gamer 4.

I get a notice from Adobe CC when I launch Premiere pro-- that my Quadro 5000 card does not have the latest drivers (R375 U11 377.83--!) Adobe is asking for Quadro Hardware release 21.21.113.77... which i believe is really 377.83  But i cannot tell... i cannot find this version on Nvidia's website.

I cannot get GPU rendering for a test project I am trying to do with 8k 60fps video.

What i can get is 90+ hour render time for using SOFTWARE CODEC... Yikes!!!

I have tried the following :

Voukoder

Cinergy Daniel2

And still this mess with Hardware incompatibility and no Hardware GPU rendering.

Audio cutting out in Premiere - it's killing me.

$

So this problem has seemed to have ramped up over the past month or so and it's getting increasingly difficult to edit.  I've tons of searching, and there seem to be a lot of people having similar issues - but all have different possible causes.  I'm trying to edit interviews, and basically I can't work.  Some of the obvious questions I know I'll get:

Was happening on the last version of 2018, and I'm now on 2019 - 13.0.3.

System:

I'm on a Mac Trashcan - I know it's getting up there in age, but it's handling the video fine - it's just the audio cutting out.

3.5 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon E5

64 GB 1866 MHz DDR3

AMD FirePro D700 6 GB

I've had this happen on multiple projects, with multiple types of media and multiple hard drives.  (Predominately Lacie Rugged which we've always used).

In this case files are 4K MXF - although I have proxies attached which seems to have exasperated the audio situation.  Although I rarely have needed to use proxies, so my other projects had problems using the original footage.

I always make my sequences from the clip, so matching settings should not be an issue - except iI guess potentially in this case where I have proxies attached.

I've cleared my cache, I've upped my buffer size to the max, and made sure my sample rate matches.

I've been editing over 25 years, linear tape to tape, Avid, and I've been using Premiere since 2012 and CS6, and I've never been more frustrated.

Anyone else?

What's a REAL fix for Adobe's Products?

$

0

Seriously, this is insane.

I cannot render a 5 second long video on Premiere Pro OR Media Encoder. Rendering gets stuck just past 50 percent and DOES NOT move. Oh, and that's not all.

Premiere Pro 2019 comes with some new features we didn't have last year:

1.) Uses 100% CPU at idle, just by having the program running, not even doing anything. This is a neat feature.

2.) Cannot render a 1080p timeline, that's 5 seconds long, on 1/4. Freezes or flat out doesn't render at all. Great new feature this year.

3.) Media Encoder comes with a new feature of not actually doing anything. It doesn't create files Queued from Premiere Pro. Neat feature.

These are the problems I'm having with this stuff.

I will never "Update" again, but I'm going to try downgrading to 2018 versions of everything to see if that works.

In the meantime, does Premiere Pro 2019 actually do anything?

If so, what are some fixes.

I have an i7 6 cores processor that runs at around 3Gh clock speed... and graphics card is Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 with 8GB VRAM.

My programs run on a Solid State Drive. I have no storage issues. I've cleared cache on all fronts, multiple times, to no avail whatsoever.

So, this is not a hardware problem. This is an Adobe problem.

What's the solution? What are possible solutions? Do any solutions exist?

How to remove 'banding'?

Can anyone guide me how to resolve banding in PP? I shot with Black Magic 4k. I have added 100 Blur as part of my Color Correction, but I don't think that is the cause.

Mixing Aspect Ratio Question

$

I'm cutting a feature that mixes a couple aspect ratios. Principal was shot ARRI 3166 x 1782 and I'm working with 1920 x1080 proxies.

Three days of additional photography were shot at 3424 x 2202 and I received 1920 x 1038 proxies for that material.

This is the first time I've dealt with this issue and am wondering what the best workflow to integrate the two formats would be.

Thanks in advance.

Premiere Pro CC color / gamma shift on export - is a Premiere not Quicktime problem

$
0
0

I know this is a topic of major frustration for many of us - washed out colors and a very visible gamma shift when exporting out of Premiere Pro. From what I have seen on this forum, people post all kinds of solutions / explanations as to what could cause this problem. Many people think it' a Quicktime problem, some say it has to do with video card drives, or with checking "render as linear color space" or not.

I just did a round of major testing on my iMac running OS 10.12.5 and the latest version of Premiere Pro CC 2017 - and I have to say - nothing I do fixes it or makes any difference. Whatever I export - and that's the key here - Quicktime movies, TIFF sequences, stills - EVERYTHING has a washed-out gamma shift and desaturated colors.

When I take a screenshot of my media within Premiere Pro - colors and gamma of the resulting PNG are exactly as I see them in Premiere. If go through the EXPORT function and export a still image - the colors are faded and the gamma is washed out. And it doesn't matter what is clicked in the export window - maximum depth, linear color space... nothing makes a difference.

Here is another interesting thing I found - when I reimport these washed-out exports (stills or quicktime movies, doesn't matter), inside the Premiere Pro world they look perfectly normal. When I import the same washed-out exports into Final Cut Pro X, the washed out colors and gamma stay. So there must be something in these exports (hidden tags?) that Premiere adds and that it then uses to display the media correctly. Unfortunately every other app in my Mac universe doesn't do the same and is off dramatically.

The problem is - I can't just stay inside Premiere Pro. I have to send tmy cuts out and share them with clients. I need them to see what I see inside Premiere Pro.

Does anyone on the Adobe side have any insight into this? This issue has been going on for years on this forum. I cannot believe that we are still nowhere close to a solution.

Thanks in advance for any hint.

Hi,

Just updated to Premiere 13.1 and opening a project with GoPro footage, filmed in HEVC h265  is now only visible as an audio file.
Worked perfectly fine in the previous version 13.0.3 of Premiere.

Note the same files works fine in the update to Ae 16.1.

Is this just a bug or has the support changed for this¿

I'll be reverting back to the previous versions for now.

How to join perfectly 2 exports without to render everything ? (jump of sound)

Hello,

I would like to join 2 videos in loop without having to render all at once for the sake of saving time and energy without any jump of sound and image. Because it's my concern.

When I link my GoPro7 videos with the 4go limit it fits perfectly but with a video exported from Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2018 there is always a little jump of its unpleasant.

How could I make it perfectly fluid?

Thank you for your lights.
