Large video files freezing/crashing premiere

$

I'm doing some editing work and clips I mostly work with are about 10 GB or less and Premiere handles them just fine.

But as of yesterday I tried to import some much larger files, ranging from 17-45 GB. Now when I do this, even importing a clip often causes Premiere to crash or freeze.

If I drag and drop the clip into the program sometimes I get lucky and can work—but only for a few seconds before Premiere freezes again. Other symptoms include the program monitor and source monitor not showing up, and even moving a clip around on the timeline or adding an effect will cause everything to freeze.

Things I've done to try and combat this:

  • I usually work with two monitors, so I've switched to one
  • I have zoom level and playback resolution set considerably lower
  • Renderer is already on Mercury Playback instead of (CUDA)
  • Restarted Creative Cloud, Premiere, Computer. Even reinstalled Premiere.

Computer specs are as follows:

  • Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700 CPU @ 3.400 GHz
  • RAM: 32 GB
  • System: 64-bit
  • OS: Windows 10

Is there anything I can do to combat this issue?

Motion Array not connecting

Hi there!

I just wanted to know if anyone else had a problem connecting with Motion Array because all of a sudden, my transitions aren't working and I keep getting a red X in place of it. When I sign in to Motion Array, it does nothing and I don't get a message or anything. It used to work, now it doesn't seem to connect?

Anyone can help me with this please, I need your help!

Thank you so much!

Replace Footage using different resolution files

Hi there,

I have been working with a low-res file for my working project (it was an attempt to put less strain on my computer, and be able to edit more smoothly) and now that I've made many cuts and movements, I'd like to import a higher res version.

My problem is that after I replace it, it looks dashed-out with yellow lines across the clips. Nothing shows up.

I double checked that they were the exact same length. When I exported the original clips, all I did was chance one to a lower resolution. Exactly the same otherwise.

Any advice would be appreciated. If a replacement ends up impossible, if anyone has an idea for another workaround, I'll take it. Anything not to have to start over!

Thanks!

Effects on Media Encoder not working (Name and timecode overlays)

I am working with proxy files and would like to add both names and timecode overlays to these to have a visual reference of when proxies are being used.

But when I use the ingest profile with these settings in Premiere 2019, it always ignores the effects so there are no overlays.

Is this a bug?

HEVC decoding on Win10 Machines

Dear ladies and gentlemen,

is there a chance that HEVC-decoding will be added in the windows version of premiere too?

On mac, h.264 AND HEVC are supported, but on win-machines we are stuck with only h.264 decoding.

Here are some examples:

Windows 10 (German):

2019-03-24_12h55_42.jpg

MAC OS Mojave:

2019-03-24_12h55_56.jpg

If you place the cursor over the MAC setting, it says that both h.264 AND HEVC are accelerated.

Would really like to see this feature on windows too for that extra power to process Fuji XT3 files with the i7 8700K. That CPU can´t handle those files very well.

Remember the old days when h.264 acceleration came out and my ivy bridge laptop was flying through the timeline with h.264 files while the i7 2600k sandy bridge was struggling just like the 8700k with the h.265 files nowadays. (Premiere only takes advantage of intels quick sync with the third core i CPU´s, called ivy bridge)

I´m working with proxies right now but when starting sharpening an grading, I need to turn them off an then the system isn´t very fluid anymore.

Cheers tom

How to make subclips from reversed source-monitor clips?

$

I'm not a regular user of PP, so please bear with me while I'm explaining.

I recently scanned a lot of my grandparents Super-8 films via a Wolverine scanner. Most films were wrongly rewinded which made the film come out backwards and upside down while scanning. "No problem", I thought, "I can reverse and flip the scanned film in PP".

I ended up with some 6-7 hours of footage, divided into some 30 MP4-files.

I really needed some way to index up all that footage, so in the source-monitor, I made in and out-points and made sub-clips out of that. First scanned reel was in normal orientation and the sub-clips worked fine.

"OK, here we go", time to start making sub-clips of the upside down and reversed films. I used the effect "Vertical Flip" directly on the source monitor and then applied "Reverse Speed" to it as well. Now the film is shown in the correct orientation and forward motion in the source monitor.  And I started making sub-clips. 230 of them and 4 hours later I decided to check the result. I admit to having been an idiot, I should have checked much sooner, but all the sub-clips are wrong that are based on reverse speed film :-(

What seems to happen is that if I make an in and out point of the last 5 seconds the sub-clip will be for the first 5 seconds of the film. Maybe I should have figured that out.

But anyway, 2 questions for you:

  1. Is there an easy way to make the already made sub-clips point to the correct part of the film in the source-monitor?
  2. How should I correctly do this? "Vertical flip" would be OK I guess, but how do I make the reversed film to go in the right direction in the source-monitor and still be able to make an in and out-point and save it as a sub-clip so it doesn't point to what for me is the wrong part of the film?

Hope you can help me, sorry if I am not explaining this in an understandable way, I am Swedish so English is not my primary language.

Adobe Premiere Pro 13.1.2 Crashing on Windows 10

Adobe Premiere Pro is unusable for me currently. When opening the app and trying to seek through video (editing a fast blur mask) it just locks up, then crashes.

Running Windows 10 1903 Enterprise, Build 18362.145

GPU: Nvidia Geforce GT 1030, driver version 430.86 (released May 27th, installed directly from the Nvidia website). I did a clean install of this, replacing a newer 435.X version that had been installed via Windows Update. No difference.

The Application event log shows:

Project manager "unknown error"

$

   Hi,

After 2 years of using project manager to consolidate and back up my projects, it is now giving me constant grief.

On almost every project (mainly promos) it is unable to calculate project size og unable to back up my projects.

Every time giving me "unknown error", asking me to try again.  Not even once, has this improved anything.  I keep getting "unknown error"

It does not work and I've tried many combination of settings.

I will have to stop using Premiere as my editor if this keeps up.  I cannot keep backing up by copying 100s of GB of assets for a each 30 sec. spot.

What is going on?

Has a bug been introduced in the last few versions?

Does anybody else have these issues?

What could be the possible cause?

Thank you

Premiere Crashes Repeatedly

$

I'm running the newest version of Premiere Pro CC, but have had these issues for the last few years with CC 2017 and 2018 as well. I'm running on a rather old by now, 2013 Macbook Pro, and do all my editing with the Media Cache and media files on an external drive. The videos I edit are generally from 3 sources, a GoPro, a Canon 70D, and sometimes from a DJI Phantom 3 and iPhone. With the GoPro footage I mostly work with a proxy work flow, as GoPro generates low-resolution files along with it's masters, making editing far easier. Generally a project contains between 100-300 imported media files, possibly more.

During a typical edit, the program will crash about every 30 minutes to an hour, sometimes more frequently, and sometimes less. This behavior is mostly just annoying, as restarting the programming and opening the project consumes a lot of my time. Generally I save frequently enough that I don't loose much actual work.

Unfortunately, I can't pinpoint what behaviors, on my end, are causing the program to crash. At times, it certainly is triggered by switching between the "Assembly" workflow and the "Color" or "Edit" workflow. But other times just be clicking on a source video, and still other times, by doing seemingly nothing.

Are there any solutions to my problem?

For references, I the content I edit is published at: https:/www.youtube.com/c/TheAdventuresofTarka and I'm very limited on both means and location to upgrading to a newer machine at this time.

Creating animated GIFs

$

Hello everyone,

Using Photoshop CC 2019& Premiere pro CC 2019, I wish to create an animated, fast-moving GIF (such as the video below) to be embedded in emails and websites, and am experiencing a few technical problems with each app, and was wandering if there's something I'm not seeing, for creating GIFs shouldn't be a complicated task.

Since my purpose is to create smoothly-rotating graphics, I cannot do it it in PS, because it'll require hundreds of frames and painstaking work, and will ultimately move very slow (and making it move faster by Convert to Video Timeline>Set Timeline Frame-Rate yields a fragmented result);

And so, I moved to do it with Premiere, and the visual result was excellent, but there I experience two problems:

First, the exported GIF always ends up weighing too much, somewhere around 5 MB, too much for websites.

And secondly, the perfect-white background in the workfile (#ffffff) turns, after being exported, into a slight gray (#fbfbfb) and I really want to avoid it.

So, I was wandering if there's maybe another app which is recommended for creating animated GIFs that someone here may be familiar with.

Thank you very much,

Itai

Dual Monitor Won't work

I have tried adobe software which is after effect and premiere pro. It won't allow me to do the playback on the second monitor. When i try to undock the program monitor panel menu to the second monitor, the playback is working fine for the first time. But when i close the program and reopen it, the software will run in the background which is I can view it in task manager. I end task it then reopen my premiere pro. Then, the playback couldn't work anymore and it allow me to work on the first screen only.

Is there anyway to solve this ? Thanks for the helping !

Dynamic link warp stabilizer workflow

Hi guys!

So I applied warp stabilizer to my footage in premiere pro, so far so good. Than on the same footage(layer) I use "replace with after effects composition", so I can add more stuff (transitions) in AE. Here is the problem, AE starts to calculate the stabilizer again as premiere pro already did. So the question is: Can I somehow render out the warp stabilizer in premiere pro, so after effects can read it as a clean comp?

Thank you

Premiere Not Showing Playback Window on Selected Monitor.

Im having an issue with Premiere and my 3 monitor set up.

The left most monitor is a LG TV known as Monitor #1 to the computer, monitor #2 is my main display, a dell monitor, and the right most dell monitor is #3.

Under Edit>Preferences> Playback... I have Pause Media Encoder and Enable Mercury boxes checked. I want the playback window to appear on the TV, monitor #1. But if I select the box for #1 and apply, the window appears automatically on monitor #3 and when I look at the settings again Monitor #3 box is checked. If I select monitor #2, no playback window appears anywhere. If I check monitor #3, playback appears on monitor 3.  So the program is recognizing I have 3 monitors, but it only wants to use one of them.

All settings are correct in the display settings of Windows 10. I've installed the newest gfx card drivers, reset Premiere, the computer and tried multiple files. Still I have had no luck. I even tried unplugging monitor #3 and that didn't change it either. For whatever reason Premiere only wants to work with Monitor #3.

Specs:

Premiere Pro ver: 13.1.0 (Build 193)

Making a gradient on text?

$

Recently I updated from an old version of Premiere, I was using either 2014 or 2015. Now that I have the 2019 version the new graphics panel seems really complicated compared to the simple title system I used to have. All I want to do is put a gradient on text, but I can't seem to figure it out. I tried doing a mask with a rectangle gradient but it's just not working for some reason. If I can, I'd prefer not to have to make a mask layer because my project already has 9 layers (and is 10 hours long-- Youtube content haha) and I don't want to make another one just for a mask. Can anyone help me?

Infinite media pending message and only single frames of a video loading in preview at a time

$

I saved and closed my project about three hours ago to go take care of something at work, and when I came back about two hours ago, I reopened the project and was immediately met with pending media messages in both my sequence and source preview windows. After about 10 seconds the first frame of both previews loaded and I thought it had finished loading the media, but it had only loaded a single frame, and would only load the single frame for whatever timestamp I selected after 10 or so seconds. I tried restarting my computer and doing a hard shutdown, reinstalled premiere, reinstalled creative cloud, and have followed the instructions of every community guide or video I could find about the issue, and nothing has worked. Audio still plays and video preview seems to move a single frame after I hit the play button, but wont progress any further than that. I've also started new projects with different assets and the same thing happens.
