I'm doing some editing work and clips I mostly work with are about 10 GB or less and Premiere handles them just fine.
But as of yesterday I tried to import some much larger files, ranging from 17-45 GB. Now when I do this, even importing a clip often causes Premiere to crash or freeze.
If I drag and drop the clip into the program sometimes I get lucky and can work—but only for a few seconds before Premiere freezes again. Other symptoms include the program monitor and source monitor not showing up, and even moving a clip around on the timeline or adding an effect will cause everything to freeze.
Things I've done to try and combat this:
- I usually work with two monitors, so I've switched to one
- I have zoom level and playback resolution set considerably lower
- Renderer is already on Mercury Playback instead of (CUDA)
- Restarted Creative Cloud, Premiere, Computer. Even reinstalled Premiere.
Computer specs are as follows:
- Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700 CPU @ 3.400 GHz
- RAM: 32 GB
- System: 64-bit
- OS: Windows 10
Is there anything I can do to combat this issue?
