Any way to prevent dupes in Premiere Project file?

$

0

Due to working with both PluralEyes as well as multiple editors on the same project, I deal with importing a lot of XML and PRPROJ files into existing project files that I've worked with.

This, on a large scale, becomes untenable because every time I import another editor's work or a synced sequence, I get duplicates of all my media in the project. I'm trying to figure out if there any way to have Premiere check to see if the media is already imported, and reference that media in the imported sequence? If not, I will just keep getting larger and larger project files with multiple references to the same media, because both me and my other editors are working with the same media, but for different sequences.

As far as I can tell, when you import an XML, or even a sequence from another Premiere project, it creates new master clips for every clip used in the imported sequence. It does not recognize that you may already have a master clip that you're using in another sequence that is referring to the same media.

So if you want to keep both sequences in your project, you need to keep both master clips. If you delete a master clip from your bin, it will not stay in the sequence(s) that refer to it, it will get cut out, leaving a big steaming crater where it once was. Even if the sequence is not currently open. This is one of the things I loved about FCP7. You could delete every single one of your master clips and your sequence would be totally unaffected. You could even recreate the master clips by dragging them from your sequence to the bin.

I think if there really is no way to manage these duplicates, this is a HUGE problem for professionals who are working in environments with multiple editors. This isn't just a "well, learn how to deal with a new editing system" - this is actually a deal-breaker; and actually the only one that I see REALLY preventing Premiere from being the go-to choice for larger post houses. This problem becomes so big so fast that it makes true collaborative editing downright impossible. In my office we might have three people on a project, all editing and revising segments and passing them back and forth. On FCP7 this was easy as pie - we'd just cut and paste between project files and use basic versioning best practices. In Premiere, our project files quickly become nightmares and work is often inadvertently deleted or lost.

I would like to see:

- Smart media handling when importing sequences and projects. Premiere should look at the filenames and file location and attempt to relink any duplicate media. If it stumbles, it should ask for help like FCP.

- A media consolidation inspection feature. I'd love to see an option for inspecting your project for duplicate media references. When found, Premiere should automatically consolidate.

- Streamlined sequence exporting. You should be able to export a single sequence. I know there's some version of this in Project Manager, but we all know it should be easier than this!

Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

Video not fluent

Hello,

I edit my videos with Adobe Premiere pro CC 2019.

I mainly film 4 k images with my Samsung Galaxy S7.

Now I have every time after exporting the video that the images are not fluent. It is not extremely annoying but I find it a waste of my images.

What can I do about it?

Here an example; https://youtu.be/qu2y5FSRRH4?t=380https://youtu.be/qu2y5FSRRH4?t=380

Look especially to the houses/buildings

I hope you can help me.

Premiere Pro Import Creates Duplicate Media

$

Our workflow involves 3 different editors working on 4 different machines (the lead editor has a machine at the office and at home) with 4 different copies of the media (the exact same folder structure, files, etc).  The lead editor maintains a master project, the other two editors work in copies of that master in sequences that are then to be imported into the master each week.  Premiere has had import issues as long as I remember, but our most recent issue is that when importing individual sequences from the secondary projects, the media in that sequence is duplicated in the project despite the fact that its connected to the exact same files that already exist in the project.  Every time we make sure to open a project and connect all media on the same machine as the master project to make sure that it's pointed at the same files.  We have experimented with turning the clip XMP metadata setting on and off, and even made copies of all of the media after changing that setting to assure that all of the footage had the proper ID tags.  This is one thing that I desperately miss about FCP7.

Loudness Shift when Mastering for EBU R128

$

Hey guys,

first time posting on here - I really hope you guys can help. Thanks in advance!

The gist of it:

When exporting a project from PP or via ME in any format there is a constant shift in program Loudness of +3,7 LU or pretty much +4 db. What is going on here? Can this be fixed?

UPDATE: Loudness shifts actually vary somewhat between episodes (i.e. timelines) more than thought before but are always a noticeable factor. Lowest shift was abut 3 LU, highest 3,7 LU.

The detailed Version:

We are doing a series of short programmes for German TV and are using PP for the first time for TV production. Now producing for TV means we have to stick to the EBU R128 Loudness guidelines pretty rigorously or our masters will be rejected. This is why this is of big concern to us. We are mastering audio inside PP (not Audition since in PP we can directly route the channels to the MXF) using the Loudness Radar on the master track to mix for R128 (-23 LUFS target I-Loudness). Inside PP the readings show exactly -23 LUFS (see Screenshot A) but after export in various formats (MXF, H264, MPG2) with PCM Audio and no further normalization the Loudness jumps by 3,7 LU (see Screenshot A).

Right now the workaround is to lower the Master track by -4dB, which produces somewhat accurate results but still not perfect (see Screenshot B). This way, we are within tolerance but not spot on and also the Loudness Range is changed consistently, no matter the output format.

Has anyone had similar experiences?

Troubleshooting steps taken:

-Disabled all Master Track effects/track effects

-Cross Checked measurements of finisched files in Audition and an external Post Facility with ProTools, they are consistent

-Reproduced problem in all Episodes, moved timeline to a new project file

Project Details:

Project is set up as an 8 channel sequence with tracks routed to submixes routed to the respective MXF/Output channels. Channelization works fine (everything is where it is supposed to be in the transcoded file). This is the only difference to any other project as far as I can tell. Source material varies but all produces the same result.

Adjusting rate stretched clips

I'm using the rate stretch tool to speed up some spots that I cut up during a long clip. I am now noticing that the parts that I used the rate stretch tool on are not consistent with regards to speed because I just dragged without watching the percentage change. I'm having a hard time now going back and trying to re-use the rate stretch tool to modify the clips already adjusted.

1. Is there an easier way to get a consistent speed for all of the separate clips that I need to adjust?

2. Is there another tool I should be using for this?

Thanks.

Premiere Pro 2018+2019 Hangs in Windows 1903+1809

Hi All! I hope to find a solution here

On May 23rd I finally upgraded from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 Pro.

When launching PPRO 2018+2019' when clicking on the Graphics Tab or Effects Tab (or when going Window > Essential Graphics) the program hangs and I'm forced to close it.

I can't do any real work without access to these features.

I've been back and forth with Adobe Support, running various troubleshooting actions with them,  but to no avail. (error checks, safe mode, uninstall and reinstall etc')

The latest "suggestion" from Adobe Support was to rollback Windows to version 1803. ( After they asked me to upgrade from 1809 to 1903 version!)

Windows will not let me to go back beyond version 1809.

I think this is an unacceptable suggestion! Why should I rollback to a less stable and ( very Importantly) less secure OS?!?

(I'm in the process of buying a new PC and probably will get on it the latest version of Windows anyway, and what then??)

I'm very close to cancel my All Apps subscription and move to another NLE system, so this is my last attempt to maybe get a proper solution here.

Thank you!

Hi everyone,

I was making this video and I'm using the Mercury only preview option (no Open CL or CUDA, even though my station supports it). I made it to that option because that's what others said to do to fix the red and green and pink vertical lines when exporting. It didn't help. I tried opening a new project and importing the sequence but no use...please help!!

Where do I install PP plugins to?

I currently have them in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2019\Plug-Ins\Common but they don't show at all in Premiere Pro. That includes LUTs, transitions, audio. Where do I need to put the plugin folders so I can see them in Premiere?

HELP: What export and preview codecs for high quality looking 4k Youtube export??

$

DESPERATELY NEED HELP:
After hours and hours of research I'm still struggling to determine what preview format to use??? Previously, I believe (not currently at computer to check) I used MPEG for preview (which only allows 1080p preview ) and h.264 for export.  I shoot on a Sony a7iii in 4k which is X avcs codec. I have been producing video for my parents business for less than a year.  This was going okay when making smaller videos, but as I have taken on bigger projects and developed my skills more, I am realizing my workflow is terrible causing export and render times to be very bad considering I use a 32gb i9 windows pc with 2080 rtx GPU. These videos are being upload mostly to YouTube, but we want a very high quality video.  I noticed when uploading in h.264 at 4k resolution it doesn't look the absolute greatest, and further more my export times are terrible. Should I be exporting and uploading with a higher codec or would the upload time be ridiculously long? Or should I use a different preview format codec that converts to h.264 faster and continue to export as h.264? I was hoping to use smart rendering, but it seems this is not possible with h.264 codec. PLEASE HELP!

Deleting Between In and Out and Closing the Gap

HI friends,

In avid there is a way to not only delete media between and in and out, but also close the gap it creates at the same time. Is there something similar on Premiere? I rely heavily on this method and I can't figure it out.

Thanks!

Premiere stuck on import After Effects project

Hi,

Can anybody help me with this?

- Premiere freezes when I'm trying to import an After Effects project;

- Even when it's a really small file;

- All windows are blocked and I hear a windows sound when I click;

- When I press ESC I cancel the import and everything works again;

- I'm using Windows 10

I think there is a box somewhere offscreen that I can't click. I tried resetting my workspace but it didn't help.

Any idea how I can fix this issue? It's really anoying since I can't use the dynamic link.

Thanks for thinking with me.

Transfer names of AE linked comps

$

hi, dear community!

I wish you all the best.

I have a very specific question.

I work in PP CC 2017.1 on PC.

When I work on a project, I always do a bunch of AE linked comps (titles, lower 3-rds, color corrections, some effects, etc.)

Usually, it's about 60-80 comps, and so I rename them in AE to organize workspace.

For example, I do a link from PP and the linked comp inside PP have a name MEKF_2019 Linked Comp 61/mekf2019_ae.aep

Then I rename it in AE for, like, TITLE_61.aep, but inside PP naming remains the same.

The question is: can I transfer the names I give to linked comps from AE to PP?

It's really not the best option to rename them by hand twice, and without renaming it really gets messy:)

I hope I was clear enough. Looking forward to hearing a possible solution!

Closed captions no longer working with .mpg files?

$

0

I used to create closed captions for a television program that is mastered as an .mpg file, but lately, the captions have been burned into the video so that they can't be turned off and on.  When I investigated, I realized that "Embed in output file" is no longer an option for .mpg exports...only Quicktime.  The natural workaround was to export as .mov, and then change the extension to .mpg, but it's not working.  The files won't play in VLC.

Notably, I am not creating the caption files in Premiere.  Captions are being created elsewhere, and I am importing pc.scc (Premiere compatible) captions into the project, and exporting them with the video.  Everything works properly in Premiere, but the exports do not have caption files.

I'm under the gun to get this resolved ASAP, as programs will be airing soon.  Can someone please offer me some insight as to why, in the previous version of Premiere, embedded captions worked with .mpg exports, but now they don't?  It's not even an option.  The only options with .mpg export captions are "none", "create sidecar file", and "burn into video".

How do I export .mpg videos with embedded captions in Premiere Pro?

Thank you so much in advance for your help!

Edit multiple Position keyframes at once

$

I'm creating an animation of a letter bouncing up and down on an image of a bed. If I decide to change the image of the bed to a different one, I will need to edit the bottom and top positions of all the "bouncing" keyframes so that the letter starts and ends in the right place on the new bed image.

In the Effects Control keyframe editor is there a way to mass edit the down & up position of the Y axis for all keyframes? I would have thought I just highlight all the down position keyframes and then enter a new y axis value (then repeat for the up position keyframes) but this doesn't seem to work.

Also, why when I select a keyframe in the Effects Control does the playhead not move to that position so I can see what is going on in the monitor?

Why is Premiere pro with 3rd party audio plugins (mostly waves) unusable?

$

I use Premiere Pro for all my work and I cannot believe that Adobe insist on editors moving to a whole new app for audio mixing (audition) to make a final edit for every production you make - mainly becuase all features I need to make an audio mix is already in PRP - BUT things aren't working as smooth as they should considering PRP i sold as a "high end editing platform for professionals". The audio track mixer hasn't been updated since I don't know when and the plugins I use (and a whole lot of other professional audio engineers) will simply not run smooth in Premiere. It is so strange since it seems so very basic to e.g. get a small VST compressor to work smooth in a mixer. (and I can't believe the inserts in the mixer are "locked" so you cannot rearrange, copy or paste them after putting them in the mixer ???)

My top issue is my Waves 10.0 plugins. I have never had a nice experience with them in Premiere - but I still choose this sluggish performance over the very destructive way to hop over to Audition and make my audio mix there.

I use Premiere Pro 2019 v13.1.2 and Waves 10.0.0.16 and the things that not work is simply changing the parameters inside of the plugin. When dragging let's say the threshold of a compressor the plugin won't respond until I let go of the knob and then it can be way off what I intended - and it has been like this with every version of PRP and every version of Waves I've come across last 5 years. It is in other words unusable BUT I still choose these plugins over Audition since I still manually can type the values I want and let's face it it's not that many parameters to work with so it should be easy to build a PRP version that can handle these plugins.

And yes - waves plugins are way better than to ones included with Premiere. I just don't find the compressors, EQs etc. good enough to value them over sluggish performance in my Waves plugins. Please add the simple code to PRP to make third party audio plugins run smooth. It is such a basic thing - even completely free video editors I've tested handle these plugins better than PRP.

I have considered moving to Davinci Resolve - when testing it for 1hour I was amazed how smooth even the editing was compared to Premiere, not to mention how well my waves plugins worked, and it's unbelievable that PRP is so slow in so many sections considering how much I pay for the software every year.

Let me know If I'm missing out on something about why my waves plugins don't work.

Dynamic Link issue

$

In my Premiere Pro project I use a lot of After Effect files to get titels, this by using Dynamic Link. (importing the AE workfile and using the selected comp)

Since the update to 2019 when I use this, it does not only chance the text in the effectspanel but it also changes the font. (for example, I would use the font Impact and it gets changed to Times New Roman)

Is there any way it only changes the content instead of the font.

It always worked perfectly in 2018, but since this does not work in 2019 I am forced to use 2018 instead of 2019.

Setting up cache on an external SSD

$

Hello everyone,

I'm running into a bit of a problem and would like to ask you for help.

I just bought a 500GB SATAIII SSD for my OS & programs. From now on, I will use the 256GB SSD it has replaced as an external SSD, primarily as a cache of Premiere, AE and Lightroom.

So I set the drive path in each of these apps. But I don't want to keep my ext. SSD always plugged in, only when I need it to work on serious projects, because I often open these apps for minor work that don't necessarily require a fast drive as a cache. Here are the problems I encounter :

  1. When I disconnect the external SSD and launch Premiere for example, it prompts me that it can't find the drive, which is logical I guess. It tells me instead that it will use the default location, AppData. But I don't want the default location to be in AppData, I'd rather have it on an other internal drive. How can I do this ? And for AE & Lightroom as well ?
  2. There's also a subsequent problem : once the cache is set in AppData by default, it doesn't matter if I plug in the external SSD, it won't move back on it. I have to manually relocate the cache on the external SSD. So I guess even if you guys help me solve the first problem, it would still not be ideal if I have to relocate the cache each time I launch an Adobe app after I have disconnected my external cache...

And voilà, if someone has any hint on how to address these issues, I'd be glad !

Thanks

Hello there,

ive got this problem since today. Yesterday everything worked fine.

So as you can see in the video, the timeline cursor jumps everytime a few frames back.

I've tried many solutions. I completely reinstalled Premiere, update grafic drivers, change audio settings in premiere, but nothing helped...

I got this problem at any project i have with any videoformat i use. So i dont think it is a codec problem.

System:

Win 10

Ryzen 1700

nVidia GTX 1080

the newest version off premiere(it happend also with older versions)

If you need mor information, just ask. I will answer them if i can.

Would be nice if someone have a solution.

Disappearing Proxy Timecode Burn-in

$

Hello,

I'm new to working with Proxies. I have created a custom proxy that includes a burn-in timecode. When I import my media into my project a proxy is created, and when I move the media to the timeline I can see the timecode burn-in during playback.

However, once I render the footage the timecode disappears.

How can I fix this?

Thanks so much!
