Won't open after update

I received a message this morning (04th April) from Creative Cloud telling me there's an update for Premiere pro which I promptly updated. Now the app won't open. I've tried restarting and I've also un-installed and re-installed the app but it still won't open. The app bounces in the dock and shows the splash screen then quits.

Has anyone else had this issue and if so found a fix?

I'm running MacOS High Sierra 10.13.3 on a 4GHz Intel Core i7 iMac and the graphics card is an AMD Radeon R9 M395X 4 GB.

Anyone else having problems with .avi files in the new April update?

My project has .avi files that I must use in an edit that is due for release ASAP and since I updated, all my .avi files won't playback.

Support, please let me know your solution. As Lemongrab would say, this is unacceptable!

Blurring stationary object in background

I am trying to blur out a stationary sign in the background of a video clip. I have the gaussian blur and track matte working for me but l cannot position the shape of the title slide to cover up the sign. Judging by the sharp lines, it appears to have a shape (square or rectangle) blocking the blur from going where l need it to go. l hope this makes sense to someone and can help me with it please. Thanks

Future versions of Premiere Pro will no longer support Quicktime 7 era formats and codecs

0
0

Hello everyone,

I’m the product manager for Premiere Pro. As there will be a change to our file format support starting with the next release of Premiere Pro, I wanted to be sure you’re aware of what that’s going to look like. Below is the official statement and a link to further information. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Adobe continuously aims to keep up with the most modern workflows and support formats and codecs broadly used across the professional film and video industry. As a result, future versions of Premiere Pro will no longer support legacy QuickTime 7 era formats and codecs. Professional codecs typically found in QuickTime movie files, such as ProRes, DNxHD, and Animation, are not impacted by this change.  These codecs are supported natively in Premiere Pro.

To alert Premiere Pro users regarding this pending change, the most recent versions (12.0, 12.01) of Premiere Pro show a warning notification when you attempt to use a legacy QuickTime format or codec that will no longer be supported, starting with the next release.

If you are affected by this change, please stay tuned for more information regarding next steps.

Transcoding does not help with color question

Hello, I found this video by Larry Jordan who uses Final Cut Pro. Unless Final Cut Pro is different somehow I don't get what he's meaning when he's saying optimized media which is transcoding helps with Color. To me it can't because you already have what you filmed. I even ran tests and did a simple color correction on a clip which was filmed in .mp4 then I took the same clip and transcoded it to cineform and applied the same color effects and the clip looked exactly the same. Why is it that some people think transcoding improves color?

To me I will only transcode if playback isn't smooth or I need to burn in an effect to a clip. Otherwise I'll keep it native.

VLC Player and trimming video question

Hello, I found out I can import a .mp4 file and record a section of what plays in the VLC player. It will record and save it as a new .mp4 clip.

Does this retain the original .mp4 quality that was filmed on my camera? I can't find any settings in the VLC player to change the mbps etc.

Someone suggested I use VLC to record a capture a section of a .mp4 clip if in the event I only wanted a certain section of it such as I had shot a 6 hour drone shot and wanted only 10 min worth.

Premiere's latest upgrade does not address a big problem

We have a longstanding case # with Adobe, ADB-1168212-M1V5, who had kicked it up to their higher levels. We had been assured by them that Adobe's next Premiere update would include better sharing of projects among multiple editors. Apparently it doesn't.

This problem is well documented on these forums and something Adobe has known about for at least 5 years. Avid has always had great media management, and I'm told FCPX now does too. Sharing projects among several editors is commonplace in the feature world, with both docs and fictions. For docs, where new footage is incoming all the time, being able to constantly update footage across multiple drives for multiple editors is important. Adobe's market share now demands that they get on top of this ASAP. We don't need another fancy transition, we need proper media management tools.

We called tech support to inquire as to whether our problem had been addressed in the recent update. Our bottom level tech in India(?) had to check with a superior and came back to tell us it had not. He suggested that Team Projects offers a fix to the problem (though no one has been able to tell us how it does this or why the same fix can't be made to Premiere itself). Team Projects requires that each member of the post team (we have 5 of us) have a license and that license runs $30/month. That's more than Premiere costs!

We are in the middle of making a feature documentary with lots of footage. We've gotten 10 months into shooting and logging using Premiere. There is a lot we like about the program. But we're now faced with possibly having to move to Avid or FCPX if this problem persists. We've been working with Adobe tech support to do the best we can - making sure we maintain a master project and that no other users write any XMP information to clips. We are hoping this works. The problem is that any mistake we make costs us. We are making a documentary and on deferred pay. It's not like we're all tech experts here. Premiere has thus far slowed us down plenty. Next snafu and we will be moving on.

Mask problem: transparency on the hedge of a clip

Hey guys!

Got a problem with Premiere Pro: there is some unwanted transparency on the left hedge of the clip (and also on the top hedge) on which I created a mask revealing some artefacts of the following clip. See the picture below.

-The mask on the left side is further away from the clip hedge so the 50.0 Mask Feather shouldn't affect it.

-The mask is also at its maximum opacity.

Anyone has a clue on how to solve t

his problem?Screen Shot 2018-04-04 at 4.39.10 PM.png

Mapping Workspaces

I would like to assign keyboard shortcuts to my custom workspaces. I see in the Keyboard Shortcuts window that there are shortcuts assigned for Workspace 1, Workspace 2, etc. on to Workspace 9. Using these default shortcuts opens All Panels, Assembly, Audio, etc. in the order the default workspaces appear across the Workspace panel. But I don't see how to designate Workspace 1 (for example) to my custom MN Edit workspace. Putting my workspace first in the Edit Workspaces window does not make it Workspace 1.

How do I do this without completely changing the default workspaces?

iMac Pro H264 Timeline Export/Media Encoder Crashes

0
0

Hello all,

My new iMP, (64gb/Radeon 64/10 Core) will not export an H264 using 2-pass and/or clicking the "Render at Maximum Depth" box. It'll usually make it through the first pass and then about 5% into the second I get a beach ball and then a full-on system crash. Gotta hold down the power button to force a restart/shutdown.

Things I have tried:

•Switching between Metal and OpenCL

•Exporting directly from the timeline vs using Media Encoder

•Using render files vs rendering fresh each time

Nothing works. I don't often have to use 2 pass, or max depth, but I do a lot of AE work and those setting usually help with things like gradations or super-busy animations with lots of tiny objects and motion. Everything else in the app, (rendering, importing media, etc.) seems to work fine. I'm running the same version of PPCC on ye olde Trash Can MP and it doesn't have this issue.

One strange thing is several times when it's crashed, one or more of my secondary screens, (I'm driving 2, 4K sidecar screens in addition to the main 5k) filled with what looks like digital confetti upon freezing. Made me think it might be a video card or Metal issue, but as I said, changing those settings hasn't helped. Don't think it's a power issue either, because my iStat Menu status bar show all the cores breathing heavy all the time during renders, (for both the CPU and GPU) and it only crashes in this particular export scenario.

Kicking out with one pass and/or clicking off max depth works fine, thank goodness, so I can get something posted.

I've already read through some of the other iMac Pro specific problems posted earlier, but this seems to be a new-ish one to me. Any ideas or anybody else having this issue?

Beginner with Adobe Premiere Pro CC, introduction and the start of some questions

0
0

I purchased Adobe Premiere Elements 2018, and encounter problems with the software running.

There were many pointed fingers as to the cause, machine not big enough, video board not right, etc. After many calls to different support groups (Adobe, Dell Pro Support, Nvidia, a paid consultant) turns out the machine is considered a "beast", lots of HP.

Posted in the Elements forum the problems encountered and was finally contacted by Adobe again.

Their input was essentially and paraphrasing, the machine was fine, the problem was the video board was too smart for Elements, they wanted me to get Nvidia to supply a downgraded driver, which Nvidia would not do.

After Adobe looked at some of the projects I had been doing in Elements they said I should use Adobe Premiere Pro CC. It made no sense to me that I should put a more complicated piece of software on a machine that was having problems with Elements. On top of that the guy recommending the change to Pro had no experience with Pro. Any specific question asked about Pro the response was he supported Elements but could forward me to the Pro Support team. He stated that 20% of the knowledge would transfer from Elements to Pro

I agreed to try the trail version of Pro.

I would say 0% of the knowledge transfers. I spent 30 minutes try to figure out how to import files, and an hour working on how to export in what I think is the correct form for You Tube.

Navigating and finding files is not straight forward.

I am not a fan of the presentation of data in the time line in particular the separation of the video from the audio with the video 2 being on top of video 1 and the audio for video 2 being under the audio for video 1.

After playing around for 4-5 hours I have not had one glitch in the software operation and would have had to reboot the Elements several times in the same time frame.

CPU usage and memory usage is less with Pro than Elements.

I have just made the yearly prepaid purchase of Pro.

Question;

I imported files from the camcorder I am using

My camcorder is set to 1080MP4 50M what ever that is, could not find fps, under AVCHD I have a choice of 60P or 60i. I am not using AVCHD but MP4/iframe which produces separate clips / not encoded clips. Those files seem to imported correctly.

In the tutorials it is stressed that you use the same data characteristics in the files imported, edited and exported.

for import I can only find 30FPS in adobe,

under the properties for the imported file I find

2018_132304.mp4

Type: MPEG Movie

File Size: 3.61 GB

Image Size: 1920 x 1080

Frame Rate: 59.94

Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz - compressed - Stereo

Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo

Total Duration: 00:11:25:00

Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.0

VR Projection: None

How do I tel adobe that is the file properties I will be using?

If I select use source in the export it picks up the same properties.

becoming proficient in editing is next. That promises to be challenging. At lest there appear to be tutorials on the net on how to do that.

By the way, how do I get my avatar to appear. I got the message that it had been approved.

Title Fonts

I'm asking again because it never was answered:

This is kind of a straight forward question yet still cant find the answer after digging for awhile. No good tutorials on how to do this. I have tons of fonts and as you know their also available in typekit, but how do you make them available for titles in Premiere Pro CC?

If this has already been answered, then link me and I'll decide that for myself. Otherwise, I running windows 10, and thanks for the help in advanced!

Apparently, but although I doubt if you  Right click>Install on the font, it will install into premiere pro. &  If you do that with all Adobe programs closed, and the font isn't showing up in PP, then it's a font that PP can't use.  You'll need to choose another. But I haven't found a font that this works with so that leaves us with the question

is there a list of fonts that PP can use?

Where is it?

Thanks for reading.

Hang when scrolling clips in Media Browser (Mac OS)

After updating Premiere Pro CC 2018 to version 12.0.0 on my iMac 2017 (40GB Ram) I am experiencing a problem with the Media Browser. Scrolling through Media Browser Thumbnails will randomly put Premiere into endless spinning wheel hang and from there I can only force quit. It happens very every few minutes of editing, but never ever happened before this version of Premiere no matter how large the project. The project it occured with has about 150 short clips. The footage is h.264 in UHD 4k straight from my Sony Alpha 7SII

It does'nt matter if I use a fast external SSD with the footage on it or standard drive. No difference whatsoever. Today I had an Adobe support agent reset all permissions etc via remote online session. For a short moment the problem seemed to have disappeared, but it started happening again shortly after. He told me that the CPU usage was peaking when scrolling through the thumbnail files. It makes no difference if I use OPEN CL or METAL, the problem occurs on both. I assume this is another kind of memory leak bug. Ive filed a bug report

Missing Fonts and Slow Team Project Opening after 12.1 Update

0
0

I updated from 12.0.1 to 12.1 today, wanted to make sure XML importing was fixed.  But encountered some other odd issues first:

1) Opening a Team Project last saved with 12.0.1 resulted in a 4-5 minute wait before it would open.  It has about 1000 project items to load, but this would previously take <30 seconds.  Usually more like 15 seconds.  This is very odd, but perhaps there's some sort of conversion from 12.0.1 happening in the background.

2) Upon opening, there's a message that says "Invalid Font Family: DIN, replaced with Courier New."  Theses fonts were used in a Legacy Title in the project (and many other projects), and when I checked to see if they were still installed, the Mac Font Book correctly shows them.  However, in Premiere's Legacy Titler, the DIN font family (sub-variations for Regular, Medium, Light, Bold) is missing.  There are two other top level font family options that are new, though - DIN Condensed, DIN Alternate.  DIN Alternate looked the most similar to the previous fonts, but there were no variations for Bold, Medium, Light, Regular - it was just DIN Alternate.  DIN Condensed was not the right font.

I poked around in Finder and found that the correct DIN fonts were not showing an extension in the Finder level, they were simply DINLig, DINReg, DINMed, etc.  No .ttf or .otf extensions.  They were in my User/Library/Fonts folder next to other installed fonts that were showing file type extensions.  The DIN Alternate and DIN Condensed were in the root/Library/Fonts folder.  I don't remember seeing those other options before, so my guess is the new updated added them?  Or substituted them with TypeKit versions?

I tried uninstalling the extensionless DIN fonts and adding .ttf and .otf extensions to the files, then reinstalling.  However this only made things worse and Font Book refused to install them saying there was something wrong with the file.  Once I removed the extensions, they installed just fine.  *shrug*

The odd thing is the extensionless DIN fonts worked just fine in Premiere 2017, 2018 (12.0) and 2018 (12.0.1), but this new update has really messed them up.

Any ideas?  I'll have to revert to 12.0.1 if I can't figure out the fonts pretty quickly.

Thanks!

Remove Proxies From Project

0
0

Is there a way to remove proxies?

Once you are done with them and want to clear up some hard drive space I am going to probably delete proxies. I have tried this but once you delete the proxies the project constantly asks to reconnect the proxy files at project open and when you double click on a clip on the timeline it asks for "Edit Offline File" instead of opening in the source monitor. Am I missing some functionality here? Seems like an obvious oversight.

If its not already in the program, hopefully they can add a button to the media re-link windows that allows you to "forget proxies" or something.

Still no audio scrubbing

0

I've read the other similar posts, tried all the common fixes, and even replied/added to a very similar one  -  but didn't get any feedback, so I'll try a fresh discussion.  I'm having a similar issue - no audio scrubbing while dragging across the timeline.  One difference I've noticed from the other posts - I will sometimes hear a first, short 'burst' of sound before it goes quiet (like it's starting to scrub but then stops).   I've checked the audio preference (it's on), I've played with Shift-S, no change (well, it turns off the initial burst, but no useful scrubbing), I've re-started the program - no luck.  And I can scrub (on the same file) in the source monitor, but not when it's added to the timeline.  And it's only on certain projects - I can scrub in one, close it, open a different project, and the scrubbing is gone.  Thoughts?

Thanks for any help/advice.

Hi all

Hoping for some advise, I'm looking to upgrade and was torn between two builds after the news Adobe and AMD are now in partnership and support Vega;

Either Intel i9 7900x and EVGA 1080TI,  or Threadripper 1950x and Radeon Vega Frontier air cooled (may hold out till water cooled comes in)

Any advise would be of great help
